I think today constitutes a rather large upward spike in the religious war index.
The crazy thing is the same thing could be accomplished in literally ever large city in the world. I think Al Qaida probably has the reach to do it too.
Lets hope this trend isn't a long term trend. I'm afraid it may have some legs on it.

Looks like an inside job to me. FT reported on the 4/7 that the MOD were drafting plans to withdraw UK troops from Iraq over the next 18months. Can't see that happening now. The 'Blaire' witch project's plans to introduce ID cards (population control) on th UK people will sail through parliament now, especially with the Olympics due in 2012. On top of the agenda at the G8 summit was Africa and the environment, I bet its terrorism now. I'm not afraid of 'mad Muslims' just my own government. Good excuse to print more money though, could help boost house prices short to mid term Kurran

I read an article the other day, before the London Bombings that eluded to the same thing. Can't remember where it was posted?
It said that any geo-political problems would probably be met with large amounts of money being printed. Which ultimately would be good for short/mid term outlooks. However the piper will get paid on this one, just when is the question...
Govt. is always a scary animal, necessary but scary nonetheless. Hopefully our freedoms aren't further cringed upon by the machine in the name of national security!

There is always a reason for something, Here is another interesting statement in an other wise meaningless news story But Anthony Glees, an intelligence specialist at Brunel University, said questions would be asked as to why the threat level was reduced shortly before Britain was due to host a Group of Eight summit of the world's most powerful leaders.
"They did downgrade the threat even though it was objectively quite clearly a time of heightened political interest. I think questions will be asked about it," he said.
At least 37 people were killed as explosions ripped apart three underground trains and a bus on Thursday morning, just as G8 leaders were getting down to summit business in Scotland.news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050708/wl_nm/security_britain_intelligence_dcyes now they will issue national id cards, scare the hell out of people and pass some really tough new laws. The theme is alyways make noise, then an event occurs which should be called the thunder then the big boys bring out the ligtening which is basically a whole new set of extremely tough rules and the masses say yes master we are ready to obey

that link with the folded money is pretty crazy, it does look like the towers/pentagon. I wonder who took the time to figure that out? I wouldn't ever even think about it. Interesting indeed...
It seems like a trend is taking place where governments are using fear to advance their power levels at the same time invading our privacy and limiting our freedoms. I'm sure it will get alot worse before people get fed up with it. The sad part about it all is that at least here in the States many people I converse with think losing some freedoms and privacy in the name of fighting terrorism is okay. I can't see why we can't do both, have our freedoms and our privacy and still protect our borders? However the whole fighting an unseen enemy comes into play. But either way that still exists, so if that is the case we should be able to keep our privacy and freedoms.

freethinker it would be great if you register i made a mistake before, what i meant to say was this is the only way we have of knowing who is contributing or not and the only way to decide who to keep in or who not to or who who to allow in

www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/07/21/congress.patriotact.ap/index.htmlthis may as well be considered a SERIOUS uptick in the religous war index.... It didn't result in any violence or any explosions, smoke, or flying debris. However it did result in the continued lockdown of authority and control by our US GOVT. This essentially gives the US GOVT the power to continue creating legislature behind closed doors. If this isn't an uptick on the religious war index it certainly is an uptick in the "losing personal freedoms and liberties" index... Interesting times.... Masalai

knee-jerk reactions begin:
Prime Minister Tony Blair met opposition party leaders Tuesday to discuss new legislation aimed at preventing a repeat of July 7 bombings that killed 52 people, plus the four bombers.
The legislation would outlaw "indirect incitement" of terrorism, including praising those who carry out attacks, to counter extremist Islamist clerics accused of radicalizing disaffected Muslim youth in Britain.
The law also would make it illegal to receive training in terrorist techniques in Britain or abroad, or to plan an attack and activities such as acquiring bomb-making instructions on the Internet.
After the talks, Conservative leader Michael Howard insisted Britain's main political parties were united in their determination to tackle terrorism. (Full story)
British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said a compensation claim for the family of an unarmed Brazilian man who was shot by police would be "handled sympathetically and quickly." (Full story)
De Menezes was shot and killed Friday at the Stockwell Underground train station after police followed him from a house in Stockwell that was under surveillance as part of the investigation into four attempted bombings on the transit system on Thursday.
A police statement said his "clothing and suspicious behavior at the station added to" officers' suspicions, and Police Chief Ian Blair said de Menezes challenged police and refused to obey orders
